Another individual I know continuously takes on multiple endeavors and always goes all-in, even if that meant leaving her job, house, and life without thoroughly thinking if this is what she wants long-term. The title of this book is Dangerous Ambition: She was of the opinion that her female contemporaries were writing the best work, and that the 'establishment' deemed their work as 'minor fiction'.

Having read only 30 pages of that massive two-volume work, reputed to be her masterpiece, I was inspired to leave Venice to go there in to work on my third novel, Bijou, each morning before setting out solo in a rented car.

And if you can't spell "Vilurum", call me "Vil". This book has left me wanting to do more with my own life, a significant impact from what began as a leisurely read.

Rebecca West was one of the serial love slaves of H. Often on my way to a showtacking up or in the warmup ring I find myself in tears. It is not conducive to pursuing ambitions properly.

I kept picturing her leaving her place on the farm and pursuing the activities that West and Thompson did, and it was hard to feature. West and Thompson struggled to fit into 'traditional' roles for women for most of their lives, while refusing to give up their quest for successful and important careers.

Although she is not as well known now as she deserves to be, almost all of Rebecca's still-highly regarded novels and nonfiction works remain in print. Some last words about West's words. I recall Wells' writing as being abstract political stuff mixed with science fiction, and the last time I tried to read one of his stories as an adult I found it intellectual and boring.

And then you don't need to swallow, with the information, the bile of a writer who, one might guess, put aside her own ambitions to raise her children, and now resents the loss of time, and any woman who did not.

Do famous writers have to be so flawed. Wells, I was able to understand more fully what life was like at least at this society level during this period in history.

I entered into a love-hate relationship with this book. Of course, the book wasn't perfect, and my main issue was the way it jumped around in time. Rebecca was extremely prolific, and wrote dozens upon dozens of critiques. I certainly hope that was corrected in subsequent editions.
